Our Supreme Inheritance – Weekly Words Of Encouragement

“Giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Col. 1:12 (NIV) God promises to us that we get to share in the inheritance he has planned for his children. If a wealthy person is facing death and he has children that he is proud of and loves with all his heart then he is glad that he can pass his wealth on to his children. He rejoices that he can bless them and help give them a prosperous and happy life. Consider how much more God wants to bless us with a tremendous inheritance. And consider how far God’s “assets” surpass anything that an earthly parent could bequeath to his children. This is the inheritance God has for us! Freedom And Confidence With God – Weekly Words Of Encouragement

“In [Christ] and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” Eph. 3:12 (NIV) This is a simple but enormous promise for us. Since Christ has paid all our debts we can always approach God without any restrictions. This reminds me of the annual entrance into the holy of holies conducted by the Jewish high priest each year. Only one person could enter, only once a year, only in the Temple, and only the high priest. But now all of us can enter, any time we want, anywhere we want, and we don’t have to be a top religious leader. Better yet, we can be confident that God will welcome us and bring good to us. The Jews did not have this confidence under the old covenant. There is an unverified tradition that the high priest had a rope tied around his ankle when he entered Continue Reading →

Our Destiny Is Incomparable Blessings From God – Weekly Words Of Encouragement

“God raised us up with Christ…in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” Eph. 2:6-7 (NIV) It is hard to think of greater words of encouragement than these. God has already raised us up spiritually with Christ and the reason he did that is so that in the next age (after Jesus returns) he could give to us incredible blessings. These blessings are “incomparable”; in other words, they surpass, exceed, transcend other riches. They are beyond other blessings we can imagine. This is God’s intention and future for us. This truth is a tremendous encouragement for keeping our focus on Jesus and fully surrendering ourselves to discipleship and spiritual growth. Simple application: put your name in the verse instead of “us.” Then say it out loud three times. Trust. Overcoming A Fault That’s Continue Reading →

We Are Sitting With Jesus In Heaven – Weekly Words Of Encouragement

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” Eph. 2:6 (NIV). Hmmm, we are seated in the heavenly realms with Christ? When did that happen? What is Paul talking about? It sounds like he is saying that Christians were resurrected with Christ and ascended into heaven with Christ. But obviously we don’t see this physically. Yet, we do see this spiritually, because “we fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen,” II Cor. 4:18. So God is teaching us in Ephesians that we are already spiritually resurrected and ascended with Christ! And we are sitting with Him! This is the reality we live in now. It is a mystery, but it is true biblical mysticism. It may be mind-blowing but it is real. This truth has a radical effect on our spiritual formation and discipleship! It Continue Reading →

Our Commander Is Supreme – Weekly Words Of Encouragement

“And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,” Eph. 1:22 (NIV) This verse explains why we can trust in Jesus for all our needs. All things are under Jesus’ feet. The previous verse says that God placed him “far above…every name.” And Jesus is the head of the body of believers. The one who is supreme above all other authorities is also our leader. Thus, these words are encouraging because we know that God’s goodness will prevail in our lives. Jesus has the authority to do it, he is our leader, and he will give us the victory of righteousness. May you reflect on these words of encouragement throughout your week.
