“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Phil 1:6 (NLT) In this passage the Apostle Paul expresses his confidence that God will continue to transform the Philippian believers because Paul has seen that they have been faithful in following Jesus. They have spread the gospel (1:5) and defended and confirmed the truth of Jesus (1:7). This encourages us who are following Jesus. Whether we feel it or not God will continue to work in us. Even when our circumstances are bad, God is working in us. And if they are bad, he is working in us in order to make us completely Christlike, full of peace, joy and fulfillment.
But the best news is that when Jesus returns and we see him then God will finish his work in us. (I John 3:2 expresses the same idea.) In other words, he will make us fully Christlike. We will finally be what we were meant to be and possess the happiness God intends for us.
Since God is working in us, what is he trying to work in you now? Do you think of this as a positive thing because he is perfecting you? Do you think of this as a burden because it is difficult? What attitude will you adopt toward his work in you?
